Senior User Researcher

I’m a human-computer interaction (HCI) researcher working on the Core Product team at Slack. My research areas include computer-supported collaborative work, computer-mediated communication, and how technology aids in transitions during major life events. I completed a Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Toronto, and was a post-doctoral researcher at Microsoft Research Cambridge (UK). Before coming to Slack, I was the sole researcher on Facebook Groups for almost 2 years as it reached 1 billion users.

I like to consider myself a “methods nerd” and always enjoy finding new and clever ways to learn about people. Most of my work is in surveys, interviewing, and usability testing, but I like to try new things. In the past this has included using scavenger hunts, comic strips, participatory design, and even speculative “sci-fi” prototypes.
